When you’re allowed to pause, running becomes a pleasure.
I used to imagine running the distance without stopping. “If you pause, you lose” was my subconscious attitude. Instead, I’ve realized that you lose if you don’t run at all.
What matters is that you run.
Doesn’t matter how far — doesn’t matter how hard.
As long as you run.
But before you go out, you don’t always feel like it. Not because you’re tired — but because you imagine the torture. You imagine going out and then struggling no matter what. It’s your imagination — thinking about the long distance — that makes you tired. And that’s why you postpone it to tomorrow.
But what if you’re allowed to stop? What if you’re actually going for a walk, and just happen to run a bit? In that case, you no longer struggle to stay alive — instead, you can focus on the pleasure of pushing yourself.
Allow yourself to stop, and running becomes a pleasure.
Which means you’ll do it more often.
